Arrive into San Jose Intl airport. Transfer to your hotel.
Transfer to the La Fortuna area, famous for Arenal Volcano which dominates the skyline for miles around.
Whilst here, choose from a wide selection of activities: hiking; bird-watching; Hanging Bridges; zip-lining; boat trips; La Fortuna Waterfall, Venado Caves; relax in the naturally-occurring local hot springs; horseback riding.
Today sees a change in habitat from rainforest to cloudforest. The transfer is a scenic one as initially you cross Lake Arenal by boat then travel the remainder by road, arriving at your destination of the small Quaker town of Monteverde.
Options for: day-time or night-time hike through the cloudforest; Monteverde Cloudforest Train; zip-lining & hanging bridges; sunset horseback ride; coffee or sugar cane plantation; hummingbird gallery & butterfly gardens.
Descend from the cloudforest at Monteverde and cross Costa Rica’s northern border into Nicaragua. Drive on to the coastal town of San Juan del Sur.
Relax on the beach or by the pool. There are also opportunities for zip-lining, hiking, horseback riding, sailing, surfing.
Travel by road then ferry across Lake Nicaragua to the Island of Ometepe, created from 2 volcanoes.
Enjoy a full-day guided tour of the island where you’ll encounter petroglyphs & stone idols dating from pre-Hispanic times.
Travel back to the mainland and on to Nicaragua’s Spanish Colonial jewel – Granada.
Spend a couple of days enjoying the city or exploring the nearby Masaya Volcano and artisans’ villages (los pueblos blancos); alternatively, you can visit Las Isletas, a series of small islands on Lake Nicaragua, or you can hike the nearby Mombacho Volcano.
Transfer to the International Airport in Managua in time to catch your flight home.
